How to Customize an Invoice in QuickBooks

If you’re just getting started using QuickBooks, you’ve probably noticed that the standard invoice template is pretty bland and doesn’t have a lot of information on it. There’s a good chance you’re wondering how to customize an invoice in QuickBooks, and that’s how you found this page.

The good news is that it’s fairly simple to customize an invoice in QuickBooks, and we’re going to give you a crash course.

How do I customize an invoice in QuickBooks desktop?

The process to customize an invoice in QuickBooks is quite simple:

  • Open QuickBooks
  • Choose Create Invoice
  • In the invoice toolbar, choose Customize
  • When the Customize Your QuickBooks Forms window opens, choose either “Add a professional look to all your forms,” or “Customize the data layout”
  • You might be required to make a copy of the base template in your QuickBooks package – this allows the system to keep the original format, and you to make any changes you need to the layout and data
  • When the “Additional customization” box opens, you will be able to add and move columns, change the position of various elements, change fonts and font colors, add logos and more

Once you know where to find QuickBooks invoice customization, it’s easy to make whatever changes you need to your invoices, so they look the way you need them to. Because QuickBooks also doesn’t let you alter the base template, if you need to start again, you’ll always have that to work from!
