QuickBooks Desktop discontinued in 2023?

QuickBooks Desktop discontinued in 2023?

If you’ve heard that QuickBooks Desktop will be discontinued in 2023, and you are a QuickBooks Desktop user, you might be panicking just a little. However, while it’s true that QuickBooks Desktop for UK customers will be discontinued on 30 June 2023 (QuickBooks Desktop in the US is still available and is not being discontinued), it’s not quite as bad as you think. Here’s what you need to know.

Is QuickBooks getting rid of the Desktop version?

Yes, QuickBooks Desktop for UK customers will be discontinued in 2023. Intuit, the company behind QuickBooks and many other top software packages, has decided to focus on their cloud-based QuickBooks Online version. This is common in the software world. Many companies are choosing to focus on developing their own platforms instead of trying to make software for all the different operating systems and computers out there!

What is replacing QuickBooks Desktop?

You can already make the switch to QuickBooks Online. It’s got all the features you’re used to from the desktop version, plus a few extra bells and whistles. So you don’t have to wait for QuickBooks Desktop for UK customers to be discontinued in June 2023. You can make the switch now!

When did QuickBooks 2023 come out?

QuickBooks 2023 was released in September 2022.

Can I still buy the QuickBooks Desktop version?

Yes. There are a variety of outlets online and off that still carry QuickBooks Desktop.

It’s worth noting that there will still be some updates and add-ons available until May 2023, so you can still access that too. However, once QuickBooks Desktop for UK customers is discontinued in 2023, there won’t be any more upgrades or add-ons. QuickBooks Desktop in the US is still available and is not being discontinued.

What happens if I don't upgrade to QuickBooks 2022?

There won’t be any immediate issues if you choose to continue using QuickBooks 2022; however, when QuickBooks Desktop for UK customers is discontinued in 2023, Intuit will stop releasing updates – including security updates. Since you want to keep your accounting system as secure as possible, that’s not ideal.

Transitioning from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online is very easy, and there’s a lot of support available. So if you’ve been avoiding making the switch because of the logistics of it, don’t. You can export your data from the desktop version of QuickBooks very easily, upload it to the online version, and get all the benefits of the cloud-based version.
